About Us

Ronda and Dave "Govy" Simonson are the owners of the Flying Eagle Resort.  Previously known as Eagle Hollow, Govy's love of flying prompted the name change when they purchased the resort in 2000.  Govy and Ronda share a long-lasting passion for music which is how they first met.  That passion for music has helped make the Flying Eagle the success it is today.

Ronda comes from a family of musicians.  Inspired by their grandfather, she and her four sisters formed an all girl musical group called "R" Country Gals.  At a performance in Minong in 1975, a young man from the audience asked to sing with the group.  Not sure what to expect, Dave Simonson took the stage and fit right in.  After that, Ronda's dad, Loren, took his five daughters to see the house band at The Country Dam in Amery, WI.  That band was The Better Half featuring Dave Simonson on guitar.  Around that time, Dave earned the nickname "Governor" in a suspicious restroom "discussion" about getting their due pay for a gig.  He has been known as "Govy" ever since.

Govy was immediately smitten with Ronda, who was involved with someone else at the time.  Later, when Ronda was ready to date Govy, he was engaged to another woman.  Even though Ronda's mother predicted that Ronda and Govy would "be together someday", they moved on to other relationships to raise families and have separate careers.

Ronda married and had three children: Brandon, Brooke and Bronson.  Having an entrepreneurial spirit, Ronda owned a beauty shop in Chetek, Wisconsin for 20 years.

Meanwhile, Govy married and had two children, Crystal and David Jacob (DJ).  He was a greeting card salesman, took up flying and continued playing in bands.  Greeting cards was a family business where Govy worked alongside his father.  In his second career, Govy flew for Northwest Airline's commuter airlines and also traveled the circuit flying in stunt planes at air shows.  During it all, he was a member of the house band at the Nashville Northstar where he played with such big names as Waylon Jennings and Farron Young.

Then in the summer of 1995, Ronda and Govy, both single again, reconnected.  Neither wanted to move to the others hometown, so they agreed to start anew.  Together they bought Eagle Hollow where Ronda took over the "inside" duties and Govy handles all things outside.  They brought their musical talent together along with their hardworking ethics to make Flying Eagle an instant success.
